Every flight produces CO2 emissions that are harmful to the environment. Unfortunately, however, there are still no technologies or marketable fuel alternatives that enable climate-neutral flying. This is why we have been a collaborative partner of the non-profit climate protection organisation atmosfair since 2015.

Through a small voluntary contribution to atmosfair, which is calculated based on the length of the route and the number of passengers, you can offset the CO2 emissions generated by your flight and contribute to global climate protection. How we invest your valuable contribution.

We use your contribution to fund efficient stoves for families in Rwanda, which provide a lower-emission source of heat and require 80% less wood. This saves the families time and money for the procurement of firewood and protects their health thanks to less smoke development. In turn, the stoves also prevent the mass felling of the rainforest which, alongside rich flora, is home to endangered animals such as the mountain gorilla. The Save80 stoves are pre-fabricated in Germany and assembled by Rwandan NGOs, which also creates additional jobs in the area.

Environmental protection with letter and seal.

The SunExpress climate protection project in Rwanda is certified in accordance with the two most stringent certification systems – the UN CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) and the Gold Standard established by WWF. Every year, independent, UN-accredited inspectors monitor compliance with all criteria and confirm the previous year’s CO2 savings through climate change certificates.

But your contribution is acknowledged, too – you will receive a personal certificate and donation receipt from atmosfair. This is importance since your contribution to climate protection is tax deductible.
